Profile
The customer, from first message to lasting relationship

Melissa Morman is an accomplished executive whose career has spanned multiple industries, with one constant: an unwavering advocacy of the customer experience, both B2B and B2C. She was a member of the founding executive team of the homebuilding industry’s technology consortium, BHI/BDX — the market leader in digital customer acquisition and experience, serving over 1,300 builders who built more than 60% of the homes in the U.S.

For 22 years, Melissa served as the CXO (Chief Experience Officer), responsible for revenue as well as the client experience. In that role she holistically managed the entire lifecycle of the customer experience — starting with marketing messaging, continuing through the sales process, and culminating in ongoing relationship management. She drove executive collaboration across the consortium and led the launch of several BHI/BDX products, including the vision, funding, and launch of Envision, the industry’s online options program.

A polished and highly rated speaker, Melissa easily captures an audience — professional poise with a humble, personal touch. Her delivery invites the room to her side, letting her take on the hard truths of change management and have listeners “singing the theme song on the way out.” She has also designed, curated, hosted, and managed industry gatherings, conferences, and summits for over a decade. As a woman operating at the highest levels of an industry historically led by male executives, she has a long track record of success across the corporate and non-profit worlds. She holds a BS in Organizational Communication and Management Information Systems, cum laude, from Ohio University.

The Builder Alliance
Getting fierce competitors to build one thing together

When Tim Costello and the founding team stood up Builder Homesite, Inc. (BHI) in 2000, the technology was only half the challenge. The other half was human: getting the nation’s biggest home builders — direct competitors — to fund, govern, and share a single platform. That executive collaboration was Melissa’s arena. As a founding executive and, for 22 years, the consortium’s Chief Experience Officer, she held responsibility for the relationships that kept rival builders rowing in the same direction.

The alliance was anchored by five of the largest builders in the country — the “biggies” whose backing gave it instant credibility:

Centex D.R. Horton Kaufman & Broad / KB Home Lennar Pulte

From there the consortium backfilled the rest of the industry — roughly 32 of the country’s largest builders pooling funding and data behind NewHomeSource.com — a roster that grew to include Beazer Homes, David Weekley Homes, Del Webb, Highland Homes, Hovnanian Enterprises, M.D.C. Holdings, Morrison Homes, Orleans Homebuilders, The Ryland Group, Schuler Homes, Toll Brothers, and Weyerhaeuser Real Estate, among others. Melissa drove executive collaboration across that group and led the vision, funding, and launch of Envision, the industry’s standardized online design-options program — getting competitors to standardize on shared tooling is exactly the kind of change she made her name on. BHI/BDX was acquired by Zonda in 2024.
